They Hate America

Last week, former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani declared his belief that President Obama does not love America. At a private fundraising dinner for Republican presidential hopeful Scott Walker, Giuliani said, “I do not believe – and I know this is a horrible thing to say – but I do not believe that the president loves America. He doesn’t love you. And he doesn’t love me. He wasn’t brought up the way you were brought up and I was brought up through love of this country.” Mr. Giuliani has seemed unusually fixated on President Obama recently, but he may have a point. While I do not know the president personally, he has done many things over the course of his presidency that make it easy to understand why someone might think he does not love America.

From the beginning of his first term in office, President Obama has enacted policies that seem to contradict the values that America has always held dear. He has reached out and tried to be friendly with countries and cultures that have long been enemies of the United States, including Iran, North Korea, and Cuba. He has not been nearly as critical of radical Islam as many Americans would like him to be. He has criticized American Christians, comparing them to ISIS and to crusaders from the Middle Ages, and saying that we have used our faith as an excuse to persecute blacks and other minorities. He has been ignoring our democratic ally in the Middle East, Israel, and refusing to hear their concerns about the threat Iran poses to their existence. Perhaps most importantly, the president does not have a good relationship with the military – he has never served his country in the military, and he gives the impression of being uncomfortable around military personnel. Furthermore, he is unable to keep a Secretary of Defense who is willing to work with him. It is clear that President Obama’s values do not align with most Americans’ values, and it would be easy to think that this is because he does not love America.

The problem with Mr. Giuliani’s comments is not that he was being inaccurate about President Obama, but his implication that, in contrast to the president, Republican politicians DO love America. This is clearly, demonstrably false. The Republican Party is just as complicit as the Democratic Party in fielding candidates whose loyalties are unquestionably to Wall Street and their corporate masters, rather than America and its people. Time and time again, both parties have demonstrated that they only have two concerns: pass legislation that allows Wall Street bankers to steal more and more money from the American people, and get re-elected so they can continue to enjoy the benefits of Wall Street’s bribes.

The main way these crooks win elections these days is by accusing each other of corruption or of being anti-American. However, the timing of Mr. Giuliani’s comments underlines the absurdity of the entire Demo-Republican system. The Republican-controlled House of Representatives is currently holding America hostage by threatening to defund the Department of Homeland Security unless the Senate and the president agree to reverse a completely unrelated action by President Obama. The DHS is an absolutely critical component of our nation’s ability to defend itself, and this despicable strategy of the House Republicans is an ultimately undeniable sign of their complete lack of love for our country, and their casual disregard for American lives.

We need to put a stop to this Demo-Republican circus. Let them accuse each other of hating America all they want, but they are not going to fool us. We can see that the Republicans and the Democrats don’t care for anyone or anything but themselves and those who give them money. If you want to end corruption in Washington, I urge you to support me by casting your write-in vote for Art Drew in the 2016 Presidential election.
